State: West Bengal NGO: Karna Subarna Welfare Society Summary: Transgender populations face issues of social marginalization and discrimination, and are particularly susceptible to various forms of violence, harassment and sexual health risks. This project in the Murshidabad and Coochbehar districts of West Bengal is led by trans/gender-variant individuals from the community who respond to some of the community’s needs by undertaking social advocacy on gender/sexual rights, providing crisis intervention and sexual health-related support. |

- Monthly advocacy and awareness-raising activities on rights of gender/sexual minorities and health issues (safe sex, HIV prevention, dealing with police and BSF clients)
- Community mobilization via community meetings/discussions and legal trainings
- Peer counseling and community counseling
- Clinic services
- Doctor’s visit, condom distribution, safe sex instruction, referrals for HIV testing and ART treatments

- Sensitization and engagement workshops were conducted in collaboration with IGNOU and other community-based organisations.
- Moitrisanjog facilitated a mat making workshop in Coochbehar – Programme to train people to explore making mats, bags and slippers as a sustainable livelihood option.
- In Murshidabad, the Sangram members hold a seminar & an LGBTQ pride walk every year.
- Maitri Barta is an annual publication from Moitrisanjog in Coochbehar.
- Sangram established a self-help group named ALORDISHA in Murshidabad.
