Community Empowerment

Women, Dalits, tribal, and minority communities and all people concerned about social justice are working to ensure that India lives up to the promise of the Constitution and democratic institutions guaranteeing civil liberties and people’s rights to life and livelihood.

AID supports the struggles of these groups through the following means:
  • Community Organizing: Severely marginalized communities mobilize on basic needs such as health, education and livelihood and raise their voice to assert their rights.
  • Advocacy:  People demand implementation of laws and get legal and social services to fight injustice.
  • Research:  People’s organizations study impacts of state policies on poor and marginalized communities, and discuss their findings with concerned officials.
  • Awareness:  AID chapters screen documentaries and invite social workers and activists to speak publicly about their causes.
  • Solidarity:  Through demonstrations, letters to press and public officials, AID volunteers raise voices and build public opinion in solidarity with communities struggling for justice.
