Details:
Climate change has abruptly affected the state of Jharkhand since 2015. Rainfall has become drastically erratic and less compatible with the crop schedules. The socio-economic status of the village households has become unstable.
The communities in the districts of Koderma and Giridih have been working along with Savera Foundation and the local government to tackle the issues of water scarcity, poor nutrition, and inequitable socio-economic status. The current project objective is to regenerate the water source in the village by building check dams, gully plugs, and other such sustainable structures. In addition, the project inculcates sustainable agricultural practices for good nutrition and food security such as crop management and rotation, training on kitchen gardens, organic manure preparation, herbal pest repellent, etc. Finally, the socio-economic status is improving with the third prong about sustainability and independence. Self-help groups corroborate with other development activities to enable women and children to understand their rights, become aware of financial benefits and leverage peer-supported learning.
