This programme has been ongoing from the early years of JSS. Activities include antenatal care including identification of risk factors, laboratory investigations (hemoglobin, blood group and Rh, urine examination for infection, sugar and protein, VDRL, HIV, malaria and sickle test), and examination of the woman for fetal growth and well-being.
Training of traditional birth attendants (TBAs) in all three subcentre areas is undertaken to improve the skill of the TBA in identifying risk factors during delivery for early referral; conducting of a clean delivery; as well as recognition and management of immediate post-partum emergencies.
